MACHHER JHOL WITH VEGETABLES ( Thin fish curry with vegetables) from "RECIPE JUNCTION"

Nowadays I am busy lazing and watching Indian soaps, like Nakusa, Lado, CID, Sasural genda phool, et al.,  lying down on sofa ( when SOMEONE is not around). Of course cooking, like a daily chore, typical for a house-husband, is continuing.
I could not resist myself from cooking this dish. The reason is, I had deviated from the traditional recipe slowly. And we, the house-cooks , always deviate in search of new taste etc. So by cooking this dish, I have brought myself back on track to the traditional recipe, thanks to Indrani of Recipe Junction. Use of right quantity of turmeric is the crux of the things.
I never make any deviation, while trying a recipe posted by a blog-friend. Here I could not use Cauliflower, as I did not have any in stock and the lunch time was fast approaching and you will appreciate how dangerous it is to earn the wrath of the better half who is hungry. The sautéed cauliflower with few brown spots add a great flavor to all Cauliflower dishes.
Here are the photographs and tips for my southern friends ...use any fish including sea fish. If you dont have " Panch PhoDon" use Fennel, Methi and cumin as a minimum.
For details of cooking instruction please click " Recipe Junction"
I have used the following
INGREDIENTS
Sweet water fish 5 pieces marinated with salt and turmeric, fast fried to brown . ( please use any fish of your choice, sea or sweet water or small fish)
Potato 2 , medium, peeled and cut to large pieces.
parmal ( patol) 6, peeled and cut ( leave a strand of skin to keep the dimensional consistency.)
Barbati ( long beans) 15 and cut to 11/2 inch
Mustard oil 3 tbsp ( any oil will do)
Turmeric 3 tsp
Cumin powder 11/2 tsp
Ginger paste 2 tsp
Green chili 4 ( more the merrier)\
Tomato large , cut to small pieces.
Dry red chili one for seasoning with panch PhoDon.
Red chili powder 1 tsp ( adjust to suit you).
If I have missed any, here, refer to original recipe at Recipe Junction
You can add other vegetables but Cauliflower is recommended.

PROCESS
Please refer to Recipe Junction

PHOTOS
These photos are taken with my 2006, Khadus vintage camera, an old friend cant get rid of it....:-)

Fried fish and the ingredients ( add few cauliflowers, I didn't  have it)

 Cooking halfway through

The final dish

Eat with rice and squeezing a bit of lemon while eating is amazing.

Thanks Indrani for sharing this recipe.......

Nice to see you blogging again! Having a rest from the usual hectic lifestyle sounds great- especially the lying on the sofa thing, along with cooking! What better way to chill out?! I would love to try this with cauliflower- it is a hugely underrated veggie in my opinion. Have a wonderful, relaxing weekend! :)

Hello sir! The fishy dish is very lovely and scrumptious! I've never added other veggies except mango and brinjal in a fish dish.

This seems a wonderful fish dish, with so many vegetables and mild sauce. Will try it soon. I too use my digi cam that we bought by 2004 Dec:) and its a great buddy. Recently hubby presented me a SLR and I am handling it like a stone age lady:) I think I should go for a class to handle it. But the older versions are easier.
While in Madras, my friend used to bring me freshly caught fish from a nearby pond in the evening. They taste great. Being a native of a coastal village, I love fish in any form:) That Fried fish tempts me a lot.

Dear sudeep
I am flattered !!! You must try this dish but please follow Indrani's blog directly, step by step. You are very right we all ate this type of jhol most days as Fish is our staple diet and one cant eat rich ones every day...also there is another one which is cooked with just Kalo jeere kacha lanka sombora, lot of Holud.
Cooking is a very good hobby, a great stress reliever after office, like if you are angry with your boss ( home and office boss) , you can add lot of chili that day ha ha
As it is said " Cooking a dish a day...keeps the doctor away ""
Let me know your progress in cooking and surprising Deepa
Bhalo theko ...

Hi Ushnish da,
Good to see your post after a long time..Hope your stay in Taipei was fun. Its always good to see a fellow blogger recreate a dish and you did it perfectly.
I saw your comment on my aloo kathal post the other day .. am glad you liked it. Yes the dish definitely has a Bong influence as I come from a region neighboring West Bengal.

Take care and have a great weekend.

Dear Friends
Thanks for the comments..I am feeling embarrassed...All credit goes to Indrani of recipe Junction. I just made a course correction by adopting the right quantity of spice and the process from Indrani's blog..
If I knew , I would get so much appreciation by following others recipes..I would have posted 100s of them which I have cooked from my blog sphere.
Nevertheless..I am delighted.
Have a nice week ahead

Even i like light fish gravies and cooked with veggies is YUMMY for me , if not for the husband.
The spice balance especially haldi if the spices are so low is so important.
